The Betrieb Landesmuseen/Azienda Musei Provinciali is looking for the following employee for the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology:


Research fellow and Curator for “the Iceman” (copper age mummy)

  • 1 full-time position, 38 hours/week
  • Workplace: South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology, Bolzano/Bozen (Italy)
  • Start: autumn 2024
  • The contract is initially limited to 11 months and can be extended


Scope of duties:
Collection:

  • Carrying out and documenting conservation controls and measures on the mummy and the associated sample materials
  • Research:
  • Initiating and carrying out research projects for the museum
  • Establishing national and international research partnerships
  • Participating in conferences on behalf of the museum
  • Writing scientific publications on behalf of the museum
  • Establishing and maintaining a scientific database on the finds
  • Supervising interns, students, and research assistants who work for the museum as part of research projects.

Exhibitions:

  • Collaborating on exhibition content

Communication & Public Relations:

  • Expertise in paleopathological issues and mummy-related questions
  • Giving lectures, conducting special tours, training courses, and excursions on behalf of the museum
  • Interviewee for the press in case of specific inquiries (in consultation with the press office)

Requirements:

  • at least a 4-year university degree in the natural sciences with qualification in paleopathology, bioarchaeology, mummy studies or related subjects
  • Knowledge in conservation of organic objects
  • Expertise in the area of project management (experience in coordinating projects)
  • Knowledge in the areas of science communication, education and prehistory is advantageous
  • Publication work in the abovementioned areas
  • Very good knowledge of English
  • Knowledge of German and Italian
  • High willingness to learn undergo further training
  • Very good organizational skills
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Good computers skills
