Job Description
Missions
The postdoctoral researcher will be in charge of virtually reconstructing and analysing elements from the appendicular skeleton of fossil hominins from the site of Sterkfontein (South Africa) and collected within the frame of the project « Looking for Human Origins in Southern Africa » (LHOSA) in a morpho-functional perspective.
Activity
-Develop a comparative sample of extant and fossil material from the database already available through the project and online platforms
-Virtually reconstruct incomplete fossil specimens with an estimation of missing parts
-Develop a morphometric approach for the analysis of fossil specimens in a morpho-functional perspective
-Present results to the research group, laboratory and at international conferences
-Write scientific papers
Your Profil
Skills
-PhD in paleontology or archeology
-Experience in imaging techniques and in landmark-based and landmark-free 3D morphometric approaches
-Experience in morpho-functional analysis of fossil hominin specimens
-Solid knowledge in African Plio-Pleistocene contexts
-Ability to work independently while being an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
-Strong problem-solving skills and capability to propose innovative solutions
-Excellent communication skills in English, written and verbal
Your Work Environment
The postdoctoral researcher (M/F) will work at the Paleontology, Evolution, Paleoecosystems, Paleoprimatology Laboratory (UMR 7262, University of Poitiers & CNRS). They will be part of the research team led by Amélie Beaudet in PALEVOPRIM and dedicated to the study of the biology of fossil hominins from southern Africa. As a team member, they will be asked to attend bi-monthly meetings, present their work at international conferences and contribute to research activities within the laboratory.
