Post-Excavation Department: Osteoarchaeologist
Kilrush, Co. Clare, Ireland
Salary range – Specialist (€40,040 – €45,760 depending on experience)
6-month contract, with possibility of extension

Role
The Post-Excavation (PX) Department at AMS is expanding! We are currently seeking Osteoarchaeologists to join our growing team and help deliver osteoarchaeological reports. The role is based at our post-excavation facilities in Kilrush, Co. Clare, on a full-time basis. You may also be required to help with site visits, toolbox talks, and excavation and processing of human skeletal remains.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analysis of articulated and disarticulated human skeletal remains.
  • Analysis of cremated human remains.
  • Specialist report production.
  • Dissemination of results.
  • Support the PX team in delivering the PX programme.
  • Help maintain the PX facilities.
  • Deliver/collect assemblages to/from external specialists and to repositories.
  • Maintain open communication with the PX Project Supervisor and Manager regarding status of completion.
  • Excavation and on-site recording of human skeletal remains.

About you

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as on your own.
  • Relevant post-graduate degree.
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Good inter-personal skills, with the ability to communicate appropriately at all levels.
  • Experience in commercial archaeological fieldwork.
  • A full Irish driving licence.
  • Desirable: Experience in delivering osteoarchaeological reports, experience in the analysis of cremated human remains, experience in the excavation and recording of human skeletal remains. Help mentor junior osteoarchaeologists.
